Aminda Marqués González, who has been a member of the Pulitzer Prize board since 2012, is set to become editor and publisher of the Miami Herald Media Company.
Marqués began her career as an intern at the Miami Herald in 1986, and currently serves as executive editor of the paper, as well as el Nuevo Herald's. She will assume her new role on April 15.
“Growing up, my singular goal was to work at my hometown paper, and I am excited to begin this new chapter leading the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald,” Marqués, who grew up in South Florida, said in a piece in the Herald. “I am so grateful for the support of all of my colleagues in Miami as I make this transition."
She is the first Hispanic and the second woman to lead the paper, and recently was inducted into the NAHJ Hall of Fame. Under her leadership, the Miami Herald has won two Pulitzer Prizes and has been a finalist three times.
