Remembering Fred Hiatt

The Pulitzer Board mourns the passing of Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor of The Washington Post and three-time finalist for a Pulitzer award

"Fred was a great journalist and an inspiration to all of us," said the Board in a statement. Hiatt, 66, had served as a member of three Pulitzer nominating committees.

"The world will remember him for his leadership and writing across five presidencies," said Gail Collins, a Board co-chair. "But having been with him on some very low-profile committees I also remember him as a great team player who was always a joy to work with."

Hiatt died of a heart attack Dec. 6 at a New York City hospital.
